This event has been supported by Birtley AC for many years, and the club encourages members to take part. This is a fast, flat course, great for a 10k PB. Details of the event can be found here The event takes place on the Town Moor, but the Race Headquarters is at the Royal Grammar School, and numbers/chips will need to be collected from there. The route may be slightly different on the day, but last year’s route can be viewed here

Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile race @ Brampton

This is the oldest road race in Britain. A brief race history is shown here. There is a prize of £200 to first male & female + £100 for winners if time is sub 49 minutes for men and sub 55 minutes for women. The Terry O’Gara Memorial 5K Road Race & Fun Run Incorporating (NEMAA) North East Masters Athletics Association

Now in its 3rd year, we are pleased to present an officially measured, chip timed, largely traffic-free 5K course using the Hadrian’s Way Cycle Path in memory of Club Chairman Terry O’Gara.

Registration and collection of race numbers at Segedunum Visitor Centre, Wallsend, NE28 6HR

Fun Run starts at 10.15 am Senior & Veteran Men & Women’s race starts at 11.00 am

Race Course Location (2.2 miles from parking area above):- Newburn Riverside Business Park, Lemington, Newcastle (Newburn Riverside A road: A6085) NE15 8NY

  • Race 1. 10.10am start. Combined u13’s boys and girls race approx 1.6 miles
  • Race 2 10.30am start. Combined u15’s boys and girls race approx 1.6 miles

  • Awards for Races 1 & 2: The 1st 3 individuals and the 1st team award (3 to count).

  • Race 3. 10.50am start. Senior & vets women’s relays approx 2.2 miles – 3 to count for team
  • Race 4. 12.00 midday. Senior and vet men’s relays approx 2.2 miles – 4 to count for team

  • Awards (ladies and mens races) to the 1st 3 senior teams and 1st 3 vets teams. Awards to the fastest lap for a senior, a vet and an o50.

    Presentations: In Newburn Leisure Centre at 11.30am for both Junior Races and 1.30pm for races 3 & 4. Refreshments will be provided.

    Respect the amenities and keep them clean and tidy. The club reserves the right to amend the race and awards. All athletes compete at their own risk. No responsibility will be accepted for any loss, injury, or illness in participation or spectating at the event.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    PARKING INFORMATION – Kindly co-operate.
  • Seniors must park at Newburn Leisure centre and NOT the business park. Use the 2.2 mile distance as an ideal warm up (and warm down) to and from the race start area. The route will be marshalled and signposted.
  • Parents/guardians taking juniors ONLY: parking is available at the business park (race location). Please follow the marshal’s directions for parking on the estate. NE15 8NY.
  • ON THE BUSINESS PARK: DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR IN A PARKING AREA THAT IS OPEN AND BEING USED BY THE PROPERTY OWNER.
  • ALL PARKING IS AT THE OWNER’S RISK AND ELSWICK HARRIERS ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO ANY VEHICLE (INCLUDING CLAMPING OR FINES).
  • The start line is 2.2 miles away from race HQ.
  • Race HQ is located at Newburn Leisure Centre, Grange Road, NE15 8ND. It will be open from 8.45am. Your coaches will already have registered you and will have your race numbers, so there is no need to register in the centre.

  • Junior members – your coaches will already have registered you and will have your race numbers, so there is no need to register in the centre. Junior teams must be registered before 9.20am. Senior/vets teams, please nominate a team member to collect the numbers to avoid congestion at the centre – women’s teams must be declared before 9.30am, mens’ before 10.30am.

  • Race 1. 9.30am. A combined U11’s Boys & Girls Race 1.16 miles approx. Entrants must be under 11 years old on the day of the race.
  • Race 2. 9.40 am start. A combined U13’s Boys & Girls race. Approx. 1.6 miles. Entrants must be under 13 years old on the 31st August 2016 to qualify
  • Race 3. 9.50 am start. A combined U15’s Boys & Girls race. Approx. 1.6 miles. Entrants must be under 15 years old on the 31st August 2016 to qualify.
    Awards for Races 2 & 3: The 1st 3 individuals & a 1st team award (3 to count).
  • Race 4. 10.00 am. Senior & Vet Women’s Relays. Approx. 2.2 miles. A minimum age of 15 years old on the day of the race. Vets must be 35 years old or over on the day of the race. 3 persons to count as a qualifying team. Awards to the 1st 3 Senior Teams & the 1st 3 Vets Teams. Awards to the fastest lap for A Senior, A Vet and An O/50.
  • Race 5. 11.00 am. Senior and Vet Men’s Relay race (approx. 2.2 miles) A minimum age of 15 years old on the day of the race. Vets must be 40 years old or over on the day of the race. 4 to count for the team prize. Awards to the 1st 3 Senior Teams & 1st 3 Vets Teams. Awards to the fastest lap for A Senior, A Vet & An O/50.


  • Presentations: In Hedley’s Cafe at 10.30am for Junior Races and 1pm for senior & vets races, male and female. The athlete who runs the fastest lap will receive the Alex Burns Cup.
