Race Parking is at Durham County Hall car park only. It’s free and only 400m from the start – please do not park anywhere else, please do not try to park closer to the course as you will be charged, or worse, and we could lose this venue! IMPORTANT UPDATE! Please note that due to the recent weather conditions the location for the Durham Cathedral XC Relays event has been moved to the University’s Playing Fields behind the Maiden Castle Sports Centre. The course will remain as 2 laps of flat grass terrain, totalling ~3,000m. All events and timings remain unchanged and will go ahead as previously advertised. The Start/Finish will be positioned on the field immediately across the wooden footbridge that leads from the Sports Centre/Boathouse to the playing fields. Toilets and refreshments will be available in the Sports Centre.

PARKING: Parking at the Sports Centre is available for race officials, marshalls, helpers and those dropping off club tents. All other athletes/supporters should park in the City as if using the original course – the new location is only a short distance further along the river from the Racecourse.

Northern XC Champs – CHANGE IN PICKUP TIME @ Knowsley Safari Park
Jan 28 all-day
This is an important event in the cross-country calendar – we encourage all of our athletes to enter.

The coach will be picking up outside Birtley Leisure Centre as usual – please arrive in time for a 6.30am departure. This is to ensure roadworks near the venue don’t cause us to miss the u17s race at 11am, also allowing time for a warmup and numbers collection. For this travelling by car, this traffic link may be useful.

    Changing facilities
There are Changing Rooms situated at the front of the sea lion house for males and females. There are no shower facilities.

    Registration
Registration will be in a large marquee in front of the main restaurant and will be signposted. Team Managers ONLY to collect chips and numbers. (See map below) Please note that registration will be open from 9.30 am for collection of numbers for U13 B&G; U15 B&G; U17 M&W; U20 M&W. Presentation
Individual presentations will take place after each race. Team presentations will be made as soon as results are available. All presentations will be announced over the PA System

    On Course
Any emergency announcements will be made from the PA System. Staff from Remote Medical Services will be on site throughout the day. Lost children must be taken to the PA area and will only be allowed to leave once staff are satisfied that responsibility has been established. The site is fully accessible to people with disabilities, the course is not. This is due to the undulating topography of the cross-country course, the main toilet block that are fully accessible are located by the restaurant near to the main car park, and there are others approx. 150m before the course. In addition there are additional toilets on the road leading to the Safari Drive. Please ensure that all mobility vehicles (eg wheelchairs) remain on paths and walkways at all times.
Athletes should both bring and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
A specific site for club tents will be situated near to the start area and will be cordoned off.

    Travel Directions
Access to the site is via the dual carriageway (A58) towards St Helens and is easily accessible via Jct 2 of the M57 motorway. If travelling from the North or North East most probably you would travel down the M62 to Jct 6 (M57) and follow the above directions. Knowsley Safari Park is signposted from Jct 2 of the M57.

    Dogs
Since the 1st of June 2015, pet dogs haven’t been allowed in any areas of the safari park. They do however provide basic accommodation for your dog should you wish to bring them on your trip. Assistance dogs are allowed access to pedestrian areas but not the animal areas. They are not allowed in the safari drive for safety reasons. Please see link re kennels etc.

    Other Considerations

We are invited guests by Lord Derby to use the grounds of Knowsley Safari Park. As with all such facilities athletes and spectators are asked to respect their right to use the area. DO NOT WARM UP TOWARDS THE AREA OF THE SAFARI PARK. Receptacles will be provided for litter, please ensure that these are used and that as little debris as possible is left on site.

    The Course
Course maps will be displayed on the day and in the event programme. The course will be open for inspection between 0930 and 10.00am. Chip timing will be used. Team managers & athletes are asked to ensure that the correct chip is allocated and is securely and correctly fixed to the athlete’s ankle.
