It’s been a while…

Hi, been a long time since we spoke, how you all doin’?

It’s been a month since I managed a run. Actually that was just an effort, I didn’t manage a run that day. It was Blaydon races, and if I remember, I walked most of the last 4 miles. Well two weeks later I attempted a parkrun, unsuccessfully. I thought my 100% record of never dropping out of a race had gone, but the parkrun association are very touchy about them being called races, so, record still intact 😉 Incidentally, that was the day our esteemed secretary passed ‘GO’ on the Monopoly board that is life, and collected another ‘V'(thanks for the reminder Brian! – Val)

The following Tuesday, I visited the physio. at Low Fell, and my worries were confirmed, I had a grade 2 tear in my Soleus, the deep calf muscle. So, never even tried running since. I am managing to walk now without a limp, I have managed a bike ride, but still nowhere near training again. My next scheduled race is Redcar half, I am told I should be ok and fit again in time for that, 2 weeks after the Great North Run. I am going to start stretching exercises this week, on the road to recovery.

Meanwhile, the club had been involved with Birtley community, arranging a fun run to be enjoyed by the people of Birtley. There was a lot of work involved, but unfortunately was cancelled as there was very little interest shown. This was a shame as it could have been the start of an annual event if it had taken off…disappointed.

Last week I was at Maiden Castle watching the British Milers Clubs races. This time Adrian wasn’t racing as he was still not confident with his hamstring recovery, so was pace maker for three races. Generally good evening of races with Birtley doing well, Sophie Burnett probably pick of the bunch knocking 6 seconds off her pb.

This evening I have been to Monkton to meet up with my mates in the Vets league. Two lasses from Birtley competing. It is a shame these are on school nights cos it would be great if we could get more people to these events, I think they are great!! Well that is about all that has happened to me since we last spoke. Hope things are happening for you and you are enjoying your running.

See yas……don’t be strangers.
