A new format for 2017 sees a three person team relay for clubs & unattached runners.
Norman Woodcock Memorial Road Race
Since 1974, the 10 km road race took place around Westerhope, in memory of Norman Woodcock who kept the club afloat after the Second World War.
In 1989 and due to Metro rail line extension work, the course was moved to Gosforth high park.
Due to road closure difficulties, the course was recently moved again, to inside Gosforth race course race course. This now five-mile road race that is flat and traffic – free. New for 2017 is a trial run of a 3 person team relay event, which is also open to un-attached runners. Each runner now runs 1.66 miles per lap.The race over it’s history has had many famous winners including Brendan Foster, Steve Cram, Paul Davies-Hale, and Elswick’s GB international athlete and Olympic track star, Mike McLeod who has won it on no less than 10 occasions!
