Thrills and Spills at Parliament Hill

Well, the club weekend in London – what can I say? Brilliant just about sums it up! A smooth and stress free coach journey there and back, a comfortable hotel 2 mins from the nearest tube station and 20 mins from the course, great company, and the mud…let’s not forget the mud (and how could we when we all brought so much of it back on our shoes…socks…trousers…you get the idea).

Joanne Bell did a marvellous job of sorting out the transport and accommodation, and the club showed their appreciation of her hard work by presenting her with a lovely bouquet last Tuesday. I won’t go into details of the weekend (boring if you weren’t there, and if you were then you know all about it anyway!) but I think this quote from Conna Carruthers sums it up nicely:-

Thankyou to the club for giving such an amazing opportunity! The weekend has been one of the best In and outside of running! A big special thank you to everyone who made it all possible and for your time and effort to get us here! This isn’t a club but a second family! ‪#‎TeamBirtleyAC‬

Everyone who ran in the horrendously muddy conditions deserves a medal in my books, but on the day it was the u17 ladies who bagged the actual honours with a team bronze medal. There were 4 full teams out, including an u13 boys team (possibly for the first time in a National comp), and a men’s incomplete team which included a coming back to form Conna Carruthers, who obviously benefited from the tough conditions, as he managed a bronze medal the very next weekend at Alnwick Harrier League!

Full results can be seen on the English Cross Country website here. Pictures from the weekend can be seen on our Flickr page.
