Bedewell Park Harrier League

This event is one of a series in the North East Harrier League. This is the course map for Bedewell Park Harrier league (also known as Campbell Park) in Monkton, Jarrow. The map shows a single lap – senior women run two of these loops whilst senior men run three.

Race headquarters are located in Monkton Stadium but the actual race takes place in the park across the road from the stadium – the picture below shows the location of the park and a streetview of the entrance.

The stadium is approached via the A194 (Leam Lane) – take the slip road for Jarrow/Boldon B1516 (York Avenue)and after approx half a mile, take a sharp left turn onto Dene Terrace and the stadium is less than quarter of a mile on your left.

Toilets are located at the stadium and there is disabled access.

There are vending machines within the stadium building, and occasionally there will be hot food and drinks available from a small concession.

The parking at Monkton is quite limited – the carpark costs 70p and fills up very rapidly, especially if there is football training taking place at the same time. However, please me mindful of local inhabitants when parking your car in other locations – do not obstruct drives or pathways, and try to car-share wherever possible to reduce the number of cars in the area. Also, don’t forget public transport – Fellgate Metro station is only 22 minutes walk away, that would be a nice warm up for your race!

Don’t forget to bring your Birtley vest, spikes if you have them, safety pins, a bag for your muddy things afterwards, and most important of all,  YOUR NUMBER! If you competed in the Sherman Cup/Davison Shield event at the start of the cross country season, you will already have your Harrier League number – this will be your number for the whole Harrier season so please look after it! If this is your first event of the season, you will be given a number by one of our coaches when you arrive, or it will be in the club tent ready for collection – look out for the Birtley flag flying outside!

Here is a list of the currently registered Birtley athletes – if you’re not listed but would like to take part, please contact the club using the details given above. The list shows your age group and which pack you will be running from – please ensure you start from the correct pack or you may be disqualified.

Our guide for new runners can be viewed here.
