Club Conference

An event is being held for the North East Region on the evening (6.30pm to 9.30pm) on Wednesday, 16th April at the Durham International Cricket Ground. We are very keen that as many North East-based clubs as possible are able to send representatives.

You may well have seen from the England Athletics website an article, setting out the background to the programme of club conferences that is being held nationally. As that article explains, this is part of a commitment made by England Athletics to consult regularly with its members regarding plans and priorities.

You will see that the issues to be explored across all England Regions are:

  • Affiliation and membership
  • Spending priorities for EA
  • The England Athletics Online Portal for Membership Secretaries

  • While there will continue to be a nationally co-ordinated communication to clubs, they are keen to get a local message out to North East clubs to try to attend so as that they have the opportunity to discuss the agenda within your own committee and membership. The discussion is open ended around these topics and we would very much value your participation.

In addition to the national issues that we will be discussing, representatives of Northern Athletics will be present at the event to discuss the results of their recent survey about the funding of competition on the North. Both England Athletics and Northern Athletics are keen to hear the views of clubs regarding this issue. They will also be discussing how clubs in the North East have engaged with the increased numbers of participants in recreational running and the ways in which clubs can benefit in from this.

They hope very much to see you or a club colleague on 16th April. As you will see from the EA website, they ask that if you plan to attend you register by email at clubconference14@englandathletics.org with your name, club and your role within the club. Club conferences are open to absolutely everybody, no matter what role you occupy within your club, so athletes, volunteers, officials, coaches and committee members are all welcome. More detailed joining instructions will be sent to those who have registered.

This conference unfortunately clashes with our own AGM, but if any members wish to attend, please email the above address.
