This year, the Bupa Great North Run will be the first event of its kind in the world to reach its millionth finish. On Thursday, 4th September, the NewcastleGateshead Quayside and the River Tyne will be transformed into a huge outdoor arena for an Opening Ceremony, marking the start of the official countdown to the 1 millionth finish of the Bupa Great North Run on Sunday 7th September.
With new writing, mass choreography, live music from Mark Knopfler, Chase and Status and The Unthanks, a giant floating sculpture, video mapping onto the Sage Gateshead, pyrotechnices, a specially commissioned film and more, the Great North Run Million Opening Ceremony will tell the incredible story of the North East – a story of innovators in industry, sport and technology, of ordinary people working together to achieve extraordinary things – inspired by the energy of a million runners powering Tyneside’s past and future.
Grab the best seat in the house by signing up to be part of our mass cast. Forming a giant circuit around the Quayside, the mass cast will perform at key moments during the show, surrounding the audience and bringing it to life. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform alongside hundreds in an ambitious, one of a kind spectacle; a truly life-changing experience. No performance experience is necessary – we’re looking for anyone and everyone to come and represent the North East!
