Darlington 10k 8/08/2010

An early start to travel to Darlington as Birtley was fielding athletes in all 3 of the day’s races. Firstly at 9.15 was the start of the fun run. This two lap race was approximately 1500m and completed by future Birtley stars Caitlin and Thomas Millmore. Well done. At 9.45 the gun went for the start of the junior 3k race. After a long period of absence from training and racing due to sickness Bethan Oakes managed a podium finish for the 4th year in a row.  Bethan battled on with a strong finish (not to be beaten by a Lad who tried to pass her) finishing 3rd girl overall. 10.30 was the start of this years 23rd Darlington 10km road race which had over 1100 entries, 7 of them being members of Birtley AC. Some good runs with a PB from Tim Bateson knocking nearly 2 minutes off his previous best time. This race had the return of Ronnie Eilles wearing his Birtley AC vest after nearly 10 years away from the sport. Don’t worry Ronnie a bit extra training and you’ll shrink into that large Birtley AC vest.
