January 2, 2014
On Saturday 4th of January, with Lydia Turner remaining at home to prepare for her second International call up next week, a strong squad of six Birtley AC athletes are travelling to Antrim in Northern Ireland for the third round of the British Athletics Cross Challenge, which includes the IAAF International Cross Country event. They’ll be flying from Newcastle early on Saturday morning, racing the same afternoon and then returning the next day.
Kate Waugh will be looking at improving on her Liverpool position in the u15 girls race, when she just missed out on a medal.
Four girls go in the u17 womens race, which is also a team event. Danielle Elliott has her first Cross Challenge outing, Robyn Waugh and Philippa Chambers have their second after both competing in Liverpool, and Sophie Burnett has her third Cross Challenge race after Bristol and Liverpool.
Tom Goulding lines up his third u17 mens race after Bristol and Liverpool. Further event info here.
Good luck to all of them! There’ll be photos and results to follow as soon as they’re available.
