Birtley excel at Durham Schools XC

The first round of Durham Schools XC took place today at Meadowfield in Durham, and Birtley were ably represented by athletes in various age groups.

There were excellent performances from the U13 and U15 girls this morning with the following girls going through to the next round (Inter-counties) in their respective year groups:- Sophie Bell 9th, Lola Tindle 9th and Lea Brown 10th. Rhianne Bell qualified as a reserve, coming in at 17th, followed by Macey Bradshaw who put in a spirited performance on the day. Well done girls!

Dillon Openshaw came 15th despite being knocked to the ground during the race, while Tom Goulding came 6th in his event, which was perhaps not the result he was hoping for, but things can only improve this year for this promising athlete.

Finally, an excellent performance by Sophie Burnett saw her finishing in 2nd place and qualifying for next month’s Inter-counties contest. Robyn Waugh will also compete soon on behalf of Northumberland Schools – post will be updated as soon as her results are known.
