Durham County Schools trials

Well done to Olivia Bateman (800m) Sophie Burnett (1500m) Anna Fawcett (300m) Andrew Baxter (100m) Lewis Morgan (800m) Adrian Bailes (3000m) who all qualified to compete in the Durham Counties trials at Monkton today. Four 1st place finishes Olivia, Anna, Sophie and Adrian with Lewis finishing 3rd and Andrew 4th. Two races really stand out for Birtley runners today and they were Adrian’s 3000m which he ran at a perfect pace, considering a number of athletes went off thinking they were doing a 1500m. The other was Olivia Bateman’s 800m under stiff competition and in her 1st year at Junior level it was a great run with a fantastic kick at the end to leave the rest of the competition in her wake. (Oh and she didnt look back !!). Good luck to all Birtley athletes I understand its down to race times to qualify for the National Schools championships. Ps I missed Sophie’s race but I did hear on Sunday it was a cracker..well done Sophie Written By Steve M.
