Juniors at the Harrier League, Shibdon Pond – Report by Joanne Bell

On Saturday 26th October 2013, 24 young athletes didn’t disappoint and turned out in huge numbers to compete at Shibdon Pond, Blaydon; the first Harrier league of the season.

Seven U11 boys, Matthew Cleugh, Aidan Hogg, Lucas Home, Chris Coulson, Michael Graham, Harvey Williams and Sam Brown and four U11 girls, Tess Graham, Jessica Burnett, Lucy Blyth and Naomi Sheavills proudly began the race showing the elder athletes a thing or two on how it’s really done !

There were excellent performances by you all, with a special mention to Matty Cleugh who came in 1st with an excellent time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

Seven U13 girls raced with Lea Brown chasing from the fast pack. Well done Lea. Excellent performance Molly Elliott who came 12th followed by a fight to the finish from Macey Bradshaw and Sophie Bell and then Grace Curtis, Michaella Swallow and Abbie Sheavills. You helped the club gain 71 points coming in at 5th position.

Two U13 boys Dillon Openshaw and Louis Gill gave it everything they had and did the Club very proud. Hopefully Dillon and Louis will be joined by another young man for the next race at Bedewell Park to enable team points.

The U15 girls welcomed Laura Kelly and thanks to Laura, she enabled the U15 girls to have a full team. Laura joined Lola Tindle and Rhianne Bell and the team came in at an excellent 2nd place with Lola coming in at 4th position. Lola now joins the fast pack.

For the U15 boys running very proud and flying around the course was Kieran Taylor. Well done Kieran. Now let’s find two young men to join you at Bedewell Park. Any ideas anyone ?

All your hard work and training has certainly paid off kids and this is only the beginning of the season. Roll on 24 November 2013 – the second Harrier League at Bedewell Park Jarrow, which is another lovely flat course. Let’s have an excellent turn out from all ages – tell your club friends and let’s have a great day.
