Here are the current standings after the first match of the Grand Prix:-
At Heaton, Matty Cleugh was 1st in his age group, as was Sophie Burnett and Adrian Bailes in their respective races – Adrian showing a clean pair of heels to his nearest rival with a 100m lead at the finish. Tom Goulding came a close second in the u17s.Full junior results here.
The senior results can be seen here with Tracy Millmore finishing a fantastic 3rd overall in the ladies, followed by Maria Smailes (17th), Lorna Graham (20th) and Lorna Blyth (listed as Lorna Smith for some strange reason!) was 24th. This puts the ladies team in 2nd place overall, narrowly pipped to the post by North Shields.
The senior men did equally well, with Dave Coulson placing 62nd, Peter Gill 70th, and Mark Bell at 98th to give 3 Birtley men in the top 100. Dave Cleugh came in at 107th, and Brian Bailes finished in a very respectable 169th place.
What a great set of results, well done to all of our athletes! A match day report written by our very own Brian Bailes can be seen here and previous match reports can be seen in our News Archive.
