Success at Shildon for Birtley

On Sunday April 13th, one of the first Track and Field events of the year was held at Shildon Athletics Club. The Anne Marie Readshaw Open Meeting is a regular fixture on the athletics calendar, and is a popular event. Despite the cool and blustery conditions, several Birtley athletes turned out for the match.

Sophie Ward ran 14.70 in the u15 100m heat, and jumped 3.61 in her long jump event.

Emily Cushlow made her first appearance for Birtley, performing well with 15.00 for the 100m in her u17 event, and 31.90 for the 200m.

sophieLea Brown was the third Birtley girl to perform, running the u15 800m in a great time of 2:37.6.

Adrian Bailes came a close 2nd in the senior mens 800m, in a time of 2:02.1. After a hard fought battle with Conna Carruthers in the senior mens graded 400m, Adrian just pipped him to 6th place, with both of them timed at 54.60.

Completing the senior men’s team for the day was Kieron Reay, running the 3000m in a time of 9:43.7.
