Wrekenton Harriers Junior Report

Very well done to Grace Curtis, Lea Brown, Bethan Frazer-Denholm, Macey Bradshaw, Sophie Bell, Molly Elliott, Lola Tindle, Rhianne Bell, Laura Kelly, Luke Appleby, Sam Proctor, Sophie Burnett, Emily Laws and Danielle Elliott who all braced the icy cold weather conditions on Saturday at the fourth Harrier League fixture at Wreketon, Gateshead.

As always an excellent turn out for the U13 girls, with particular mention to Grace, Lea and Bethan who scored 69 points and the U15 girls, Lola, Rhianne and Laura who scored 64 points for the club.

Sam Proctor and Luke Appleby were the only boys running on Saturday, and both did their best to represent the male contingency. Sophie and Danielle, as always, gave excellent chase in the U17 ladies race. Emily Laws, a sprinter by nature, made a valiant attempt at her first cross country of the season, and although she didn’t quite complete the course, her efforts showed a true fighting spirit.

Conditions were certainly harsh on Saturday in what was a very open and hilly course. I’m sure the elements and terrain tested even the most experienced and hardened cross country runners. You should all be very proud and I hope pleased with your performances.

Sadly there are only two more harrier league fixtures left for the 2013/2014 winter season. The bad news is that some may say they are perhaps the more difficult of courses. I know however that won’t put you off one bit and therefore am pleased to say for those that are new, these courses were my favourites last year with beautiful scenery, a castle in the background and the odd hare running away from all the commotion of the U13’s who were racing.

As we are approaching spring time lets hope for some sunshine and blue sky and no more of this dreadful rain -although I know you all love getting muddy and clarty. Our amazing U11 girls and boys can race at the next two events, Alnwick on 1 March and Prudhoe on 22 March and I look forward to seeing you all refreshed and raring to go. Don’t forget to tell your parents to make no plans for these days and lets have a massive turnout and end to the season.
