Match report by Joanne Bell
Wow kids – what a fantastic start to the cross country season. You have worked really hard and have made the Club, the coaches and your parents, really proud. Here’s hoping for a very successful season with lots of excited happy athletes, lots of sunshine, no rain, snow or muddy puddles !

On 30th September 2013 26 young athletes took part in the Sherman Cup/Davison Shields at Hedley Farm in Tanfield, the first major cross country fixture of the season. It was a lovely day with lots of sunshine, blue sky and blue Birtley vests.
Because of you all, Birtley AC came 3rd thanks to the 13 U11’s boys and girls who raced: Matthew Cleugh, Michael Graham, Chris Coulson, Tess Graham, Harvey Williams, Katie Francis, Jessica Burnett, Naomi Sheavills, Mia Openshaw, Lucy Blyth, Thomas Millmore, Sam Brown and Caitlyn Millmore.
7th place was awarded to the 3 U13 boys Dillon Openshaw, Louis Gill and Lewis Raun and 4th place for the 7 U13 girls, Lea Brown, Molly Elliott, Sophie Bell, Grace Curtis, Bethan Frazer-Denham, Macey Bradshaw and Abbie Sheavills.
Sadly the U15 girls and boys didn’t have a team but that didn’t stop Lola Tindle who came very strong in 4th position followed by Kieran Taylor and Rhianne Bell.
Keep up the good work kids – you are all amazing.
