Young Athletes league Sunday 17th June

The last Young Athletes league NE meeting of the season took place at Monkton Stadium, Sunday 17th June. Throughout the season the under 13 girls team have turned up in numbers and they didn’t let us down today, most events had two representatives and each girl scored valuable points for the club. Most of the Under 13 girls are listed below who have represented the club all year. Josh was the only 13 boy competing, and he did really well, he obtained a PB in each event. When you consider how many boys turn up on club nights it is such a shame that we could not field a bigger team. The Under 15 girls had Grace, Danielle and Olivia with Sophie B missing an event for the 1st time this year. These 4 girls have been consistent throughout the season with dozens of Podiums and PB’s. The under 15 boys had a good turn out today, usual suspects with the addition of Jack Foley who made a welcome return. The Under 17’s Girls and Boys had two reps each, all obtaining PB’s in various events. This has been an age group in which a number of our core club athletes have missed a significant number of events through injury, exams and other commitments. On paper these age groups have some of our highest ranking athletes at the club and were it not for the exams etc we would have picked up valuable points this season. Today we had Birtley Athlete of the Year Lydia Turner turn up with revision books in her bag with her spikes, competed in her events then returned to the books sitting at the back of the stand. True dedication Lydia. We cannot forget Sophie and Kieran Taylor and Adrian Bailes who have competed in a number of events this season. Both Sophie and Keiran couldnt attend today as both have been unwell (Get well soon). Performance of the day for the Girls goes to Amelia Bateman who is getting better and better each meeting. A 1st and 2nd place and finishing the day with an excellent final leg to bring the under 13 girls home in 2nd place in the relay Performance of the day for the Boys goes to Andrew Baxter who won the Under 15 high jump and had a fantastic 200m coming in 1st smashing his PB. Andrew also completed the day with the final leg in the relay to come home 2nd after Middlesborough were disqualified for throwing their baton away in disgust for losing the race.
