Last Thursday, the club had a visit from local physiotherapist and Morpeth club runner Neil Wilkinson. Neil has a very impressive running history, with a PB of 14.31 for 5000m and 29.34 for 10K, so it would seem that he is well placed to give the club a demonstration on the importance of incorporating stretches into our training routines.
Regular stretching exercises can improve your relative flexibility, help prevent injury and also promote a better running style (for example, by stretching the hip flexors). Neil demonstrated several different stretches to all age groups of the club from u13 upwards, concentrating on the problem areas for runners of the lower spine, hips, knees and ankles. His talk was well received and the club is very grateful for the time and skills Neil kindly provided us with.
