Unfortunately, due to the persistent rain over the last few weeks, the Town Moor has become waterlogged with standing water over large parts of the course, adjacent roads close due to flooding and pedestrian access limited due 4 feet of water covering some access points to the Moor. As a result, the Town Moor event has been cancelled on safety grounds.
There were contingency plans to hold the event at Wrekenton on Saturday instead but an inspection of the Wrekenton course shows all the low ground to be waterlogged and much of it under inches of water.
♧ Although access and parking are OK, there is nowhere to put up tents and nowhere to shelter and more rain is forecast. Also, while no one can complain that a cross country has some wet and muddy sections, having standing water over half of the course is not really suitable for racing.
As a result the Harrier League cross country has been cancelled for this weekend. If possible, a replacement event will be rescheduled for some time in February. The 13th February is being looked at as a possible alternative date but nothing is finalised. More news when available.
