An enjoyable, though at times extremely damp, time was had by everyone at Monday night’s Durham Summer Relays. The 1.5k course consisted of two fields with a short, but pretty steep, hill in-between them – definitely a test of tired legs on the second lap. Best junior performances of the night came from the u15 girls A team, with a second place for them in their age category. The other two girls teams were in good form too – congratulations to all of you, performing well in some pretty horrible conditions. A special mention for Aidan Hogg, the only boy to turn out with an impressive time of 5:56.
The senior/vet teams also had a good turn out, with four senior teams and 2 vets teams competing. The winning senior ladies team (who were running as guests due to age restrictions and therefore not eligible for prizes) put in some fantastic runs to pip Morpeth to the finish by 21 seconds.
The A and B senior mens teams came in at 5th and 6th place, again a fantastic result against some stiff competition. The remaining teams ran well, with several of our vet athletes running in the senior teams and still outperforming many of their opponents! There were also two vets teams out, with the ladies team featuring two athletes representing the club for the first time, Stephanie Young and Shannell Curtis. Well done to everyone who ran, and thanks to the many supporters to turned out to shout everyone home – it was much appreciated.
