England Athletics membership fees increase

England Athletics recently proposed a large increase in membership fees from the current £5 to £20 per year. This decision had been made without a period of consultation, and was opposed by many local clubs, including our own. England Athletics recognised that a series of roadshows around the country were necessary to provide the necessary consultation (see the full story here Consultation). One of these roadshows was attended by Ed, and after full and frank discussions, the following fees were decided upon:-

  • All individual athletes will pay a flat fee of £10 irrespective of age or discipline. (The £10 fee will also apply to the optional Under 11s scheme. Details on the benefits pack for this scheme will be communicated in the New Year.)
  • The club and affiliated bodies registration fee will remain at £50
These increases, although much reduced from the originally proposed figures, will still have an impact on club membership fees, and this will be an important point for discussion in the upcoming club AGM in April – please attend this meeting if you can (details of date/time to be confirmed, and will be published here and on our FB page). This is also a good example of how important it is to have a local presence on the Regional Council – please read the article below and consider standing (or nominating) for election.
