Gateshead Grand Prix (1)

Yet another sunny Sunday morning, we set off for an early start (9.30 am) luckily it was only at Gateshead stadium. The first day of Quad kids, this year we have four girls from the under 11 age group competing. Our first event was the long jump, all three girls achieving PB’s with Amelia winning a bronze medal. Next was the 75m sprint, Amelia, Sophie, Macey and Lea all gaining PB’s with Amelia and Sophie progressing to the final. All girls had excellent runs in these very fast heats, only the first two in each heat could progress to the final. The howler throw was next and due to the large numbers in this age group, only two throws each were allowed. The Birtley trio threw well with Amelia managing a gold medal. Without a break we moved on to the 600m race. A great race was had by all 4 girls, Amelia did well to finish after giving the track a christening (sick) all down the 100m straight. We ended the day with the 75m final, an excellent run by Amelia and Sophie in this very strong field. We look forward to the next meeting on the 22nd May. Perhaps a few boys could be encouraged to enter the next time. Carole Ward Results for this event and the North East Track League appear on the Gateshead Harriers website.
