NEMAA T&F Match 1

Great to be back on the track at Monkton, I am not a big fan of the track, but I do enjoy supporting the masters events. There is a masters event for everything there is in the senior leagues, sometimes though it is just incorporated in another event.

Anyway, I have been banging the drum at the club for a few years now (not too many) trying to get interest, and from going on my own , there has been occasion when there were maybe 5 of us, but following a couple of the lads having a try last year, I am sure there will be a few more this year, 4 of us lads this week, but I know there is at least one more interested, and one who ‘visited’ to suss the event, same as I did 12 years ago. I hope he enjoyed it.

Shannel was the sole lady representative today, Val is going to struggle to get on the track having taken over from Vicki in the closed season. Hope to see Lorna and Lisa again this season…and there may be another one or two that we try to get interested. The shame is, Rob said today, that to get team points you need to have 6 (he’s wrong by the way, it’s only 4 for a team, 3 for the ladies – Val;)). I think the gentlemen may manage a team this year, cos I know Iain is coming back to fitness, so one more for a team, with two possibles. Unfortunately you don’t get points for helping, cos Stephanie must have covered a canny distance as the results runner.

Anyway, I haven’t seen the results, and to be fair my contribution is only ever one event, but I believe Rob and Jeff did two sprints and the ‘spear’. And new to the masters was Peter Llewellyn, came to throw the spear and decided to do a jump and the 400m as well. That’s a lung buster, as your first masters track race. But…looked like he enjoyed it. So tonight we did run jump and throw.

Shannel trying her best to be a team on her own, did the 100, as a warm up for the 3000 and then the 400 was her warm down. Smiled right to the end!

So come on team, it is great craic at the masters, and the next one is on Monday 22nd – see the link for the events that are on. These are the results; if you want to see the standard. It is very competitive, but still very sociable. And this the home page …. It’s worth a look. For those of you on FB, they have a page to follow
