The Anne Marie Redshaw Memorial Track & Field meeting 17th April

On a bright sunny Sunday morning we all set off for an early season track & field meeting. The first event was the under 11 girls 60m sprint heats. Birtley girls Amelia, Sophie, Macey & Lea all had excellent runs. Amelia progressed to the final. Next was the under 13 girls 100m sprint with Grace having a good first track race of the season. Rachael, who has been missing from training managed to find a gap in her busy dance schedule to represent the club had a commendable performance for her first race in the under seventeen age group. Emily Laws enjoyed her 800m run from a long way home in the in the blistering sunshine. Birtley only fielded 2 under 15 boys Andrew stepping up to this age group to put in a good effort in the 100m sprint also Kieran had his track debut and enjoyed the race. The under 13 girls 800m race brought Birtley our first gold medal with Olivia showing the remainder of the pack a clean pair of heals winning by over 30m. Birtley only had one under 11 boy today Kieran Taylor in the 600m he ran well and finished the race even though he had been spiked. Well done Kieran. Moving on to the field events there were good performances in the Long Jump in all age groups. Rachael was pleased with her performance and I picked up a few tips from a long jump coach (ear wigging). Grace took note of the tips (ha ha) and won a bronze medal. Jay got a pb in the under 15 shot putt and was proudly walking around with his silver medal around his neck. Martha came 2nd in the under 11 cricket ball throw and picked up a silver medal (a new thrower in the making)  All five girls Amelia, Sophie, Macey, Martha & Lea put in good efforts in the 600m race – well done. Now it was up to Mr Bailes (Adrian) to fly the flag for Birtley, how he managed to run 3000m in the heat I don’t know, he had a great race and tells me he is looking forward to the rest of the season (bring it on). The Birtley trio Amelia, Sophie and Macey went on to have excellent runs in the 150m sprint with Amelia gaining a bronze medal – well done to you all. FINALLY in th 200m sprint a good effort by Rachael being one of the youngest in the race. As we can all see a good result for Birtley AC. Everyone enjoyed the day with a lot of sunburnt people returning home looking forward in anticipation to the next event for TRACK & FIELD By our roving reporter Carol Ward Full results can be obtained by visiting Shildon Athletics club website
